Designer's Initiative

Making Waves This Summer

Clothing is a language of it`s own. Like any fashion fiend the one thing I look for in a garment is unique pieces that tell a story about my personality without trying to be anybody else. Clothes make a strong visual statement about how you see yourself and the young designers have created an impressive collection that will inspire fashion lovers. Being a designer takes a lot of creativity, drive and guts. Pretty Mbishi Banda, Degma Matanhire and Tapona Mangwiza might be names that you are not familiar with but it`s high time you add them to your list of proudly Zimbabwean fashion designers. From their drawing boards to the clothing racks their garments speak individuality and exhibit a variety of trends. It’s the uniqueness of each garment that the Young designers created that makes each collection special and attractive.

There is more to this collection than just aesthetics, fabric manipulation and fascinating patterns deserve special mention. The designs are sleek, contemporary while the silhouettes are form fitting and compliment the female figure.  The brands are made from high quality material and have that transformative effect. The collections fuse variety and unusual fabrics in their pieces such as Scuba crepe, jacquard woven, span jacquard, crepe suiting, lace and chiffon.

We all love  beautiful clothes and we want them to be more than  just part of our wardrobe but statement pieces that allow one to live a life around them. The ranges offer an opportunity for intriguing color combinations. The collection features muted hues which look very elegant and make a powerful statement.  Colour pallets included a fusion of navy black, grey, off white and a bit of blush.
The essence of the designs are appealing to a contemporary audience. Having had front row access to the cutting edge designs, I am excited about a lot of distinct features. Maybe it`s the experience of actually wearing transitional pieces that can be worn from day to night-time. Or the adoption of trends to their brands, personalizing them and making them work for the customer. The fun part about the collections presented is that it comprises of “everything a woman needs”.
