Corporate Social Responsibility Report

7 July 2017

The Club has grown into a household magazine loved by many for its content which is always trendy and interesting. It also has a popular section, the Cash Challenge Competition where lucky Club members walk away with cash prizes that can make a difference in one’s life in this harsh economic situation. The Edgars Social Corporate Responsibility team have gone a step further in the Zimbabwean community by making a provision to develop rural schools of the winners’ choice ten times the value of the amount won. It is always a pleasure when these schools write back to us, assuring us that we are on the right track.

Liebenberg High School
Edgars after hearing the plight of Liebenberg High School situated in Chivhu - whose classroom block burnt down - decided to make a donation of 10 desks. We embarked on a trip to Chivhu to handover the donation and also target potential customers who have not yet opened accounts with Edgars. We were taken on a tour of the school – and of special interest is their agricultural area where a tobacco seeding project has been embarked on.  We were also shown a video of the official opening of the block after renovations that was officiated by His Honorable Dr Dokora. Entertainment came from the student drama club. Speaker after speaker, praised Edgars for coming through and echoed that the donation would go a long way in assisting the current students and those still to come. The donation was well received by the school and they hope that this is the beginning of a lasting relationship.

Sviba Primary School
Sviba Primary School is located in the Midlands Province, Mberengwa in Ward 25. It is under Chief Muketi. The school has an enrolment of 674 students, 16 teachers (8 males and 8 females). It is located in a remote area with several challenges such as shortage of classrooms, toilets, teachers houses and dilapidated blocks.  Student and staff often had to travel 1.5km or more in search of clean water, the nearest borehole serves more than 475 households, excluding two schools, Sheba and Muketi. In July 2015, Sheba was fortunate enough to receive a donation from Edgars, the first project we invested in, improved access to education. Three rooms were wired to serve as computer rooms for the pupils. Secondly we were able to construct a 10 Squat Hole toilet building for the girls, in addition the school decided to electrify six of the teacher’s houses.
We would like to thank Edgars and Samson Ncube for such a precious donation. The electrification of the school, raised the moral of the pupils, teachers and the Community as a whole. The school is now a cluster center. We are now awaiting to receive computers and printers for the cluster.

Long live Edgars,
F. Shumba
