What makes a mummy yummy? As a mom, it’s easy to favour practical over glamourous. Comfort comes first and trends have taken a back seat on the priority list. Putting together items of clothing and accessories for maximum effect can come easily to some, but not others. There are lunches to be made, the house to keep tidy and a family to raise – that’s your daily mantra. You wonder how your mum friends do it, looking gorgeous even as they drop off their kids at school in the morning. But being a mother doesn’t mean you don’t have to look good. Whether you are in your 20’s, 30’s or 40’s, you deserve to look the best you can. It’s time to learn key image skills that will last a lifetime and will be the best emotional (& financial) investment you can make. Image is everything, you need to be a positive role model for your kids and peers.

1 – Wardrobe Maintenance
Make sure your wardrobe is well organised. That will make it easy to find what you need quickly and effortlessly. Women who look after their clothes always look more stylish and groomed.
Look after your clothes! Washing labels are there for a reason so try to stick to their advice.  Iron and hang garments up properly and treat each item as if it were your most valued possession. Everything should be ready to wear that’s hanging in your wardrobe. Treat your wardrobe like your very own private boutique. All your clothes will remain looking new for so much longer, look more expensive and you’ll be less inclined to hit the shops for a fashion fix!

2 – Wear Clothes that suit your body shape
Make sure your clothes show your silhouette and suit your body shape. Baggy items not only add extra pounds but also show that you don’t care much about yourself. Also look at the fabric – chunky woollen items will pile on the pounds visually.  To look thinner to the eye, choose thinner flowing fabrics like chiffon. Also go for more tailored items, such as blazers to show your figure off or to hide problem areas.

3 – Invest in Quality Fabrics
Although items from cheap clothing stores have a place in every woman’s fashion wardrobe, it should not consume a woman’s entire wardrobe! Cheap clothing stores are ideal for updating your look quickly and more affordably and work well when your aim is to achieve the season’s trends on a shoestring. However in order to remain looking chic, they need to be mixed and matched with quality staples. Look for high quality fabrics – like cashmere, wool and silk blends. Not only will they signal ‘classic’ but will also be key when dressing up your fab pair of jeans in a hurry!

4 – Shoes
Wear statement shoes, sandals, pumps or boots to finish off an outfit. Simple touches of detail and texture will make a difference. This is where you can really have fun with your wardrobe personality! Heels automatically make you look more feminine and chic, so make the effort every now and then and leave your flatties at home!

5 – Makeup
Makeup can transform you! Always wear lipstick or lip-gloss. Even if you don’t have time to put on full make-up, some lipstick along with some blusher and mascara will help make you look and FEEL refreshed and vibrant! When applied correctly, makeup enhances your own natural beauty, it calls attention to your best features and it can conceal or de-emphasize any flaws. It helps you to project your own sense of self. When it is done tastefully and skilfully – along with wardrobe, hair, and nails – it reveals the competence, attention to detail and pride that are the mark of a modern woman.

Keep it simple. Keep it stylish.
