Dressing for A Bridal Shower

20 September 2016

Summer is here and the season of weddings begins. Before you know it, it will be bouquets and save-the-date reminders and bridal showers galore. Bridal showers are a chance to celebrate new love, catch up with old friends, indulge in some sweet food as well as dress up and slay. It is of utmost importance to be shower appropriate. Not sure what that means? Let us guide you to the perfect party outfit.

Bridal showers are the informal version of a wedding reception. Thus is perfectly acceptable to wear something casual and something other than a dress. There is one standing rule however – do not wear white (any of its variations, such as creams and ivory) unless the bride says so. Those shades are pretty much reserved for the bride at all her events. However, for a bridal shower, if the white has an all-over print, like floral or conversational, or if it’s just a basic cream top with a printed bottom, consider yourself safe. Khaki’s and camel colors are also well received.  Since a bridal shower should be a light, airy and beautiful celebration, opt for feminine florals, pretty pastels and classic silhouettes. Now the outfit suggestions:

The obvious, dresses:
Because this is a lighter affair, dresses are always a good choice. They are easily accessible, simple to outfit and come in lots of styles, silhouettes and fabrics.

There are several lengths of skirts to choose from: above the knee, below the knee, tea length and maxi’s. Just ensure you’re picking a modest length for the party, nothing too tight or short.

Pants are more and more becoming a big trend. Pants aren’t just made of denim anymore—there are lots of options to be dressy with a pant. Metallic, printed, silk, jacquard…the list goes on. Since denim is the trend right now, spice up your favourite pair with a bright coloured top.

Shorts are not just for the lake, music concerts or late night clubbing, they can be worn to a bridal shower too. Well- tailored shorts of knee length and not too tight can come off as trendy for an afternoon with the girls.

If you’re adventurous, a jumpsuit

A jumpsuit is basically a dress, with legs. They are extraordinarily comfortable and surprisingly very chic when paired with the right accessories. The easiest way to put together an outfit for a bridal shower, is to remember who you are there for. Keep in mind the bride’s style; if you’re invited to her shower, chances are you know her pretty well. Use the location and time of the party to determine the look you’re going for and always make sure to honor the girl you’re clinking glasses to.

Keep it simple and stylish.
